Initiative: Ushers are expected to handle duties and responsibilities without having to wait on instructions. Uniformity/Dress Code: Ushers are expected to always dress in uniformity during church services. Punctuality: It is required that ushers must arrive the church at least 15 minutes before the start of any church service and anyone resuming lesser time will be considered a late comer. We try not to add to their burdens but to alleviate them. Patience: Our Ushers are committed to exhibiting patience always, having in mind that a lot of people come with different burdens. 5:21- “Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God”.Įxcellence: Our ushers are committed to efficiency and excellence, always looking for ways to improve because our God is a God of Excellence. Submissive: We are to submit to each other and the church leadership, out of respect for each other, as fellow brothers and sisters in Christ. Organized: As a department that is to maintain order in the church, every usher is expected to be organized and orderly in their individual lives. Polite and Cheerful: As a team that will be interacting with people from different backgrounds especially at the point of entrance, the ushers are expected to always maintain a polite and cheerful appearance with high sense of humility while receiving and dealing with all worshippers. John 6:63- “It is the spirit that gives life, the flesh profits nothing”. We understand that the physical is controlled by the spiritual. Spiritual: We take our spiritual lives, especially prayers and studying of the word very seriously. The Ushering Department has core values which every usher should demonstrate. We are like the “customer service representatives” of the church. The mood and appearance of the ushers always must be one of cheerfulness and gladness as the ushers are the initial point of call for members and visitors coming to the church for the first time. The Ushering department of CPAI is a ministry of service and the vision is based on service to others as found in 1st Corinthians 14:40: “But be sure that everything is done properly and in order… “. Ushers serve on the front lines by welcoming people to our fellowship and preparing them for the Lord’s Day and special events.Īt CPAI, Our ushers welcome every CALVARARIAN and provide them with the information and materials they need to enjoy and benefit from the worship service and to help ensure a hospitable, safe, and smooth flowing worship service. The primary function of the ushering department is to ensure that the atmosphere of worship is conducive for worshippers and they enforce decorum in fulfillment of the admonishment in 1st Corinthians 14:40: “But be sure that everything is done properly and in order… Ushers are the first point of contact for everyone visiting or attending CPAI. During rainy months, provide rails for the congregation to scrub away mud and wipe their shoes.Children, Church, Department, Men, Student, Women, Youth, Provide Emergency help when needed in an orderly fashion.Ģ0. Turn out lights, lock all doors and windows, and ensure all power sources are switched off.ġ9. After the service has ended, have a designated usher go through the church building to make sure doors and windows are locked and no one else is in the building.ġ8. Some churches require an usher to count attendance.ġ7. Be aware of the temperature in the sanctuary.ġ5. They can monitor the hallways for unexpected guests.ġ4. After the offering, at least one usher must remain in the lobby area to offer assistance when needed. In some churches, several ushers and church deacons count the offerings and place the offering in the safe.ġ3. Be available for offering, special offerings, and other duties as directed by the Pastor.ġ2. Assist the elderly and handicapped out of their cars and into the church.ġ1. Provide directions to the nursing mothers, Sunday school children, etc.ġ0. Be alert for issues that may need your attention.ĩ. Welcome arriving congregation with a warm, friendly smile.Ĩ. In most churches, these are not provided so your responsibility will be to make sure pews are well organized and neat.ħ. Maintain supplies at the Altar, make sure pews have adequate hymnals, Bibles, pencils, and offering envelopes if provided. Get the bulletins and take them to the assigned positions.Ħ. Work and receive instructions from the Chief Usher.ĥ. Dress should be appropriate, descent, clean, and neat.Ĥ. Arrive at the church 30 minutes prior to the start of the service.ģ. Faithfully attend church, whether you have ushering responsibilities that day.Ģ.
